Welcome to the Dicky Beach Surf Club
Located on the edge of the mighty Pacific Ocean, at Dicky Beach,
Sunshine Coast, Queensland, our Club boasts more than 50 years of
service to the community and is the only Club in Australia with a
shipwreck on its beach. Over the past 50 years we have provided
thousands of young Australians with life saving skills and the
attributes our great nation is known for – dedication, commitment and
passion. We are very proud of our record “No lives lost between the red
and yellow flags”. Dicky Beach Surf Life Saving Club is renowned for its
champion Nippers and Surf Lifesavers. The club since its inception
has won many national, state and branch medals in a variety of areas
including: surf boat rowing; boarding; flags; sprints; skis; first aid;
surf rescue; rescue and resuscitation and march past. Our record
speaks for itself as we have achieved hundreds of medals and awards
ensuring our Surf Lifesavers are some of the finest in the country. Our
Supporters Club has recently enjoyed a $2 million makeover, making it we
believe the finest Club in Queensland. We invite you to enjoy the
relaxing atmosphere and casual dining on our new viewing deck. So -
whether you’re on vacation, joining friends for a celebration or a new
resident to the Sunshine Coast we look forward to seeing you!
Between the Flags
Congratulations to all of our dedicated Patrolling members. Again this season we have maintained a record of no loss of live at our designated patrol area. This season again has provided a number of challenges with unprecedented bad weather. This has saw a decrease in the number of visitors to the beach as well as the public becoming frustrated and swimming in these bad conditions. Thank you for vigilance and service.
Despite all of the challenges our trainers and assessors have continued or record of developing life savers for the future with training programs in all awards being offered. An analysis of the members by branch has put us in the category of a healthy club based on members, awards and balance. Please thank Ross Gibb and our training team for a job well done when you see them around the club.
Again this season we have undergone 6 patrol inspections. In reviewing the inspection results all of our patrols have done exceptionally well. The best inspection lost only 6 points with the worst loosing 14. This in an exceptional result when considering there are only a potential of 345 available. Credit must go to our dedicated support team who work hard behind the scenes during the week to ensure our equipment is kept in tip top condition. Please thank Ian Irwin and Wayne Findley for keeping our radio, mobile and IRB equipment in good condition.
Change is all around and this season we have seen a more flexible approach to patrol attendance. I some respects this has had great benefits however there have been some disappointing moments with member not organizing subs or notifying the Patrol captain. We will be reviewing the impact of this for next season.
As a result of our continued involvement in the 24 hour program and the high quality of our patrols we have been successful in our application to embark on the implementation of pain management within our club. We have 4 trained members and will be supplied with our own supply of Penthrane at the club shortly. This is a significant step forward in the services we offer. Thank you to Graham Sharry and the 24hr call out team members.
It is now time to celebrate the season and prepare for the 2011/2012 season. I encourage as many of you as possible to attend the club presentation night and the AGM. Please consider your individual circumstances and skills and look to nominate for one of the key positions on the Board of Life Saving committee for your club. The positions which are always open on the committee are :
Club Captain, Vice Captain, Chief Training Officer, Registrar, Mobiles officer, Radio Officer, First Aid Officer, Club house Director, IRB officer, Gear Steward, Health and Safety officer.
There are a number of member who have held positions for a number of years and are happy to step aside and allow some fresh ideas to be implemented. If you would like any information on what is required for a position please give me a call. Our club is completely dependent on volunteers to fill these positions to support our great tradition.
I would also like to congratulate our members who represented our club in the various competitions and development opportunities during the season. Your performances have been outstanding for a club such as ours. The members representing the club at the development camps and award ceremonies have again left a lasting positive impression with the organizers and management within SLSA.
In closing I would like to thank you all for a great season in all areas and look forward to seeing you around the beach next season. Please enjoy the break. Stay fit and healthy so your proficiency in October will not be too tough.
